Obituary

A Private Graveside Service will be held 12:00 noon, Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA.
Visitation will be Monday, January 4, 2021 from 3:00 until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

On March 9, 1 930, G od blessed the late Alonzo Jordan, Sr. and Ol ive Scott Jordan with the birth of their fourth child, Benjamin H oward Jordan into their family which would grow to include f ive children. Born in Petersburg , V irginia he was affectionately known in the community as " B op" due to his sharp dress and unmista ka ble swag . He graduated from Peabody High School in 1948 and joine d the Army some months later. After e n tering the Army, he was eventually stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia and reunited with his oldest sister Elizabeth and her family. It was in Columbus , that he met the love of his life Beatrice Bolden and they married on December 1 0 , 1955. Through this union they became parents of twin boys Stanle y Howard and Sean Raymond . Bennie was a provider for his family u tilizing his entrep ren eur drive as part O wner/Manager of H and D in Phenix City, Alabama and Clothing Connection clothing store in Eufaula, Alabama.

Bennie was a generous and selfl ess person who was always willing to extend a helping hand to others. He encouraged young people and mentored those interested in owning their own businesses.

Sergeant First Class Jordan enter ed the United States Army o n November 1, 1 948 , and served his country for over twenty-seven (27) years of federal active service. He retired on November 30, 1975; with an honorable discharged, and his last unit of assignment was the United States Army Marksmanship Unit, Fort Benning, Georgia. He participated in the Korea War as an Infantryman with Mike Company, 30th Infantry, Fort Benning, GA , and was wounded in that conflict. SFC Jordan second and third combat deployment was to the country of Vietnam where he served as the Personnel Senior Sergeant with the Headquarters, Americal Division, Chu Lai , Vietnam . SFC Jordan also served a tour of duty in Germany and Japan.

His awards and decorations includes the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany and Japan ); National Defense Service Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; U nited Nations Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal (8 th Award); Bronze Star Medal w/ 1 Oak Leaf Cluster; Army Commendation Medal; Korea Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 Bronze Stars; Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 60 device; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm device; Purple Heart and the prestigious Combat Infantry man Badge. SFC Jordan also earned the five overseas service bar s and nine wartime service stripes.

Benjamin was preceded in death by his beloved wife of thirty years; t wo sisters, Elizab eth J. Gibson and Mildred J. Campbell ; and two brothers , Alonza "Buzzy" Jordan II and Samuel H. Jordan .

He leaves to c herish his memory two sons, Stanley H. Jordan and Sean R . Jordan (Georgette) Columbus, Georgia; granddaughter Rashanda Jordan (Curtis Haney); a special niece Olive Marie Vidal-Kendall, Columbus, Georgia; nephews , Elwood T. Gibson II, Atlanta, Georgia , Alan M. Gibson, Columbus, Georgia and Andre J. Gibson, Atlanta, Georgia; a "special" sister/cousin Bessie Moorer ; a loyal frien d Terry McBride ; other beloved nieces and nephews; and extended families and friends too numerous to mention.
