Mr. CD Davidson was born July 30, 1929 in Vardaman, Mississippi to the late Clem and Mae Davidson. He was the youngest of twelve children born to that union. He departed this life on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.
CD was united in Holy Matrimony to Ernestine Battle on May 2, 1956. They were married for over twenty-five years until her death in 1982.
CD received his early education in Mississippi and later in Eatonville Florida. He also continued his education at Chattahoochee Valley Community College. He served his country in the Korean and Vietnam wars, as well as tours in Panama where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service with Oak Leaf Cluster and many other decorations and commendations.
CD's professional life was varied. After retiring from the military, he owned H&D Center (Howard and Davidson) with his uncle and owned D&D Services that was ranked on Inc. 500 for three consecutive years. He also owned Battle-Davidson Funeral Home and other businesses such as South Phenix City Janitorial and Supply, a laundromat, a diner and Little Italy Pizzeria which included a hot Pizza truck. He was truly ahead of his time. However, he really enjoyed working outside and riding his tractor.
He was very involved in the community. He loved the Lord, and he loved his church Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He served as Deacon and Chairman of the Trustees, and he was faithful in Sunday School and mid-week worship when his health permitted. He served on numerous boards such as Regions Bank Board, Phenix City Industrial Board, Governor's Advisory Council and Boys and Girls Club. Some of the organizations he cherished most were the Epicureans and Amvets 310. He was a life member of Mt. Pisgah Lodge No.53 Prince Hall Affiliated. He was a charter member of the East Alabama African American Chamber of Commerce (EAACC) and United to Save Ourselves (USO).
He was preceded in death by his wife Ernestine Battle Davidson; his sons, Clemmie Luther Davidson and Charles Deryl Davidson; and daughter Sylvia Irving. He was also preceded by his eleven brothers and sisters; and son-in-law Mannis Samuels.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters: Mae Nell (Gregory) Browning, Roanoke Rapids, NC, Carmen Samuels, Phenix City, Al, Carla (Willie) Long, Fortson, GA; son, Damian Davidson Petersburg, VA; twenty-one (21) grandchildren; Jennifer, Hubert, Suzette, Clemmie Jr., Reginald, Carlette, Michael, Mark, Matthew CD, Yolonda, Michelle, Lauren, Courtney, Chelsea, Marquarius, Kaylen, Joshua, Kelsey, Maya and Damian; forty (40) great grandchildren; thirteen (13) great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Henri F. Davidson; son-in-law Michael Irving; two sisters-in-law, Gloria L. Battle, Columbus, GA and Louella K. Battle, Panama City, Florida; brother-n-law Phil W. Petrie, Clarksville, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
