Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, December 5, 2025 at Nicholas Chapel AME Church. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, December 4, 2025.

Dorothy J. Ezekiel Bass was born September 15, 1940, in Phenix City, Alabama. She was the second child of Julia Mae Calhoun Ezekiel and Robert Ezekiel Sr.  She was educated in Phenix City Schools and graduated from South Girard High School in 1959.

Dorothy confessed Christ and joined Nichols Chapel AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Z. D. Hardwick. She was an active member who served as a stewardess and a member of Choir # 2.

She was united in holy matrimony to James C. Bass on January 13, 1980. They shared forty-five years of marriage filled with laughter, commitment, and unwavering support.

Dorothy will be remembered as a caring and loving person. A gifted seamstress, she used her talents to create beautiful garments for her family and friends. She took pride in seeing her loved ones decent and in order.

Whether it was Shirley Temple curls, a lovely Easter dress, or a stylish suit, she made sure her family looked their best. She often blessed family members with homemade soup, sweet potato pies, chocolate cakes, and pound cakes. Dorothy also provided excellent care for many of the little ones in her family. Parents knew their children would be safe and sound while in her presence.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Robert Ezekiel, Sr.; her mother, Julia Calhoun Ezekiel; and her sister Bobbie Ezekiel Blanding.

She is survived by her devoted husband, James C. Bass; step-daughter, Priscilla Haggins; grandsons, Myles McGuire-Haggins and Matthew McGuire-Haggins; her sister, Carrie E. Allen; her brother, Robert Ezekiel Jr. (Velerie); sisters-in-law, Lula Johnson (Nathan) and Betty Arnold; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
