She was preceded in death by her brother Johnnie Lee Vann Jr. Her early education began in the Phenix City School System where she graduated from South Girard High School. After graduating, she went on to further her education at Albany State where she received her B.S. Degree in Education, and later received her Masters from Troy State University.

Mrs. Black started her teaching career in 1952 with the Russell County School System where she taught at numerous schools until she reached her home away from home where she retired in 1995 after 43 years of teaching at Pittsview Elementary School.

Mrs. Black confessed Christ at the age of 12 where she became a dedicated member of the Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church. She dedicated her life to serving God by being a member of the Usher Minsitry, Choir, Stewardess Board, Missionary,Willing Workers, Scholarship Ministry{her passion}, and the Trustee Board where she served as Vice Chair for 32 years.

Eleanor Louise Vann Black was a family matriach, a woman of Elegance and Style, Retired Educator, Humble servant, a mentor, and community leader.  She lived her life and left a legacy.

She is survived by a Sister, Loretta Vann; nieces, Valerie Vann, Eleanor (John) Price, Charvetria Vann and Meyoshia Vann; nephew Ernest Lee (Cynthia) Vann; a special cousin Dorthy Ford and numerous great nieces, nephews, and other family and loved ones.
