Elizabeth
Williams
February 22, 1932 – December 27, 2022
Visitation will be Friday, January 6, 2022 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Elizabeth Williams' incredible life journey began on February 22, 1932. Born to Adolphus and Elizabeth Morris in Eufaula, Alabama, she was the fifth of nine children and proudly named after her mom. Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.
Love was at the center of her parents' home – love for God, love for family, and love she became. With an early introduction to God, she was baptized at the family church, Mount Calvary Baptist in Eufaula, Alabama. Sundays were all about God and family, from the Sunday school classes to the worship services which included the melodious voices of her aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her parents were land owners and as farmers they all pitched in to work in the field. After her field work, she enjoyed watching her older sisters and mom cook.
Elizabeth exceled in school and realized there was more to life than farming and she set her sights on college. She was determined to be the first to attend college in her family and her parents were just as determined to help make it happen. Before she went off to Alabama State University, a proposal came but her mom quickly said Lizzie had to go to college. And off she went! After graduating, she began working as a school teacher at Comer High School. During this time, most of her siblings had moved to Northwest Indiana. On one of her trips to visit them, she was introduced to the love of her life, Carey Williams.
And that's what she always was to her three beautiful daughters. Instilling the same family values that she was taught. At home she was Mom – who did everything well. From cooking to baking, to sewing, whatever we needed, she did. The only thing sweeter than her infamous pound cakes was her kindness and love. Sundays continued to be filled with church and visiting family. "We're just pop calling" was her favorite line as we went from house to house. From family get togethers, to church and office parties, their home was the gathering place. Every summer vacation was spent visiting Alabama and other places.
After years of living in the cold, they gladly traded in their winter boots for a warmer climate and moved back to Alabama. Alabama was still in their hearts after all! She again followed her husband and became a member of St. Luke AME Church in Hatchechubbee, Alabama where she faithfully served as Sunday School Teacher, Local President of the Women Missionary Society, Local Director of the Christian Education, Steward Board and Stewardess Board. A proud hornet, she was a dedicated member of the ASU Alumni.
Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Cynthia Williams (Atlanta, GA), Angela (Jim) Anderson (Austin, TX) and Jeanette Williams (Atlanta, GA); two granddaughters Arielle and Julianna Anderson, a bonus granddaughter, Maia Magalaski; three sisters-in-law Birdie Morris (East Chicago, IN), Delores Morris (Orlando, FL), and Janice Morris (Gary, IN); god-sister Marguerite Simmons; best friend Maxine Reed (East Chicago, IN), three best neighbors Berniece Willis (IN), Frances Ivey (AL) and Patricia Glance (AL), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
