Obituary

Visitation will be Friday, December 15, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Hubert Brown was born March 21, 1947, in Phenix City, Alabama to the late Fannie Battle Brown and Charlie Brown.departed on the morning of December 6 to go and live with Jesus.

He came to know the Lord from a young age, on the mourning bench at Pine Hill Baptist Church.Until the day he left this earth, he was still a member. He longed for the pre pandemic times going in to hear Pastor Fryer preach.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Ada Reid, Sallie B. Brown, Lola Chambers Carmichael and Ella Mills; his bonus mother Mary Brown; brother Isaac Jackson Jr.; nephews, cousins, uncles, and aunts that helped raise him after his birth mother passed (from the results of their house fire on 5th Place So.) at his tender age of 3.

Throughout his lifetime he loved his family and would lend a helping hand to anyone needing it or privileged to have had personal access to him.His hobbies were cars, guns, dancing, hunting and fishing. He was a strong, hardworking man that never knew the meaning of a nap.

His motto was "The only person that needs two jobs is two people! If one job doesn't pay enough, then you find one that does and leave it."He did exactly that.He retired proudly from Norfolk - Southern Railway which was the job of his dreams. His list of stepping stones to get him there from childhood included working at horse stables and dish washing on Ft. Benning. He was the "first black man trusted to operate the tree shaking machinery at Kendrick Pecan farm". He worked at Miller Averett Boat Marine as a mechanic/hitch installer/welder while working at Fieldcrest Mill. Then he landed his job as a spike driver by hand, then machinery on the railroad. He progressed within there and achieved his CDL license to move the campsites upon completing the job at that location. He retired medically after an on-the-job back injury with over 22 years of service.

When he was 18 and still working at the pecan orchard, he met the love of his life Mattie Pearl Brown(s.). In 1969, they were joined in holy matrimony.

He leaves to cherish his memories, (from that union derived) two caring daughters - in which he was well pleased; Felisa V. (Terry) Dennison and Prophetess Ginger B. Pollard (Aulden) Butts; four grandsons, Mario (Courtney) Brown, Anthony Pollard, Alexander Pollard and Marquise Dennison; two great grandsons, Marque Sawyer. and Elisha Pollard.

Hubert fathered son, Shone D. Brown, three granddaughters; Meida Brown, DeNasha Patterson & Keandra Meadows: seven great grandchildren.(A combination of 2 daughters, 1 son, 11 grands, and 9 great grandchildren); sisters, Leola Gore, Willie Mae Copeland, Minnie Martin, Erma Alexander, Cathelerene J. Collier Hood, Mamie Sampler, and Martha Pee Redfearn; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews; in-laws, and loved ones.
