Visitation will be Friday, June 24, 2022 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jessie Mae Sumbry , 80, resident of Phenix City, AL passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband the Late Honorable Arthur L. Sumbry , Sr. , daughter the late Sabrina Sumbry , and brother Eddie Ford. Mrs. Sumbry is survived by her two sons, Arthur "Peewee" (Celeste) L. Sumbry , Jr. and Arttie " Pontez " Sumbry of Phenix City, AL; son-in-law Robert Taylor, grandchildren , Kendyl (Christopher) Tarver, Yarin Sumbry , Naiman Taylor, Arzoria Sumbry , and Armani Sumbry of Phenix City, AL; great grandchildren , Madison Sumbry and Christopher Tarver II of Phenix City, AL; two loving sisters , Peggy Gamble and Margie Purry of Columbus, GA; brother-in-law Austin (Catherine) Sumbry IV of Phenix City, AL; two sisters-in-law , Evelyn (Jake) Stovall of Chicago, IL and Tippy Ford of Columbus, GA; two aunts Gladys B. Lyles of Phenix City, AL and Mildred Setzer of New Haven, CT; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Sumbry accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Nichols Chapel A.M.E. Church. She later moved her membership with her husband to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Sumbry worked at M&M Cleaners on Seale Road for a number of years before going into the floral business. She was also one of the First African American Voter Registrars in Russell County. Mrs. Sumbry was passionate about her political involvement with her husband and family.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at 11am, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church . Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pastor Vincent Wilson, Jr., Pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, will be officiating and presiding .
