May 16, 1932 – January 27, 2021
Reverend Lonze King was born May 16, 1932 in Russell County, Alabama to the late Lonze King and Johnnie Mae Porch. He departed this life for his eternal reward on January 27, 2021 at his residence. A Private Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, January 30, 2021 1:00pm at Battle and Battle Funeral Home.
Lonze was educated in the schools of Russell County, Alabama and retired after many years of service from Wells-Flavor Rich Dairy in Columbus, Georgia. He accepted Christ at a young age and served the Lord as pastor for more than thirty-seven years at Pleasant Hill AME Church and Salem Chapel Church in Salem, Alabama and St. Peter's AME Church and Howard Chapel AME Church in Hatchechubbee, Alabama.
Lonze was a family man who loved to garden and farm. He was known as the "Watermelon Man" and for his vegetable truck which had the best and freshest produce.
In addition to his parents, Lonze was preceded in death by his wife Alice Walker King; a son Lonzo King; and three siblings, Rosa Mae Thomas, Jimmy King and Dorothy Swift.
Lonze leaves to cherish his memory a son Cleveland King of Norcross, Georgia and a daughter Margie Long (Leonard) of Midwest City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Natasha, LaKisha, India, Cleveland, Jasmine, Alexis, and Elishia; several great-grandchildren; one brother Frederick Phillips (Dorothy); two sisters, Catherine Jenkins (Freddie) and Barbara Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and loved ones.
