Graveside Service will be held 12:30 PM EDT Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. There will be No Public Viewing.

Mamie Davis was born July 16, 1932, the youngest of 12 children born to the union of Burrell and Jessie Davis of Russell County, Alabama. She was the sole survivor of this union and was proud to be the matriarch of the Davis family, faithfully checking up on her many nieces and nephews.

Mamie graduated from South Girard High School in Phenix City, AL as valedictorian of the class of 1952. She went on to attend Savannah State University, where she continued to excel, being chosen as "Miss Freshman" in 1952 and later being elected to serve as Miss Savannah State during her senior year(1955-1956). She also pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha and served as the Basileus of her undergraduate chapter, Gamma Upsilon. She earned her B.S. degree in Elementary Education and graduated Cum Laude in 1956.

After college, Mamie returned to Phenix City and married her high school sweetheart, James W. Ezekiel, Jr. Their union was blessed with two daughters. She immediately began her career in education and continued to be a rising star as she was named Teacher of the Year by the Phenix City Teachers Association during her tenure at Susie B. Allen Elementary School.

After her youngest child was born with Sickle Cell Anemia in 1967, Mamie decided to give up her career in education to care for her family. She became well known for her cleanliness, always keeping a spotless home, and her love of flowers. Her yard was adorned with many beautiful blooming flowers and azalea bushes and became the pride of the neighborhood. She was also an excellent seamstress, often sought out to sew dresses for weddings.  She became the office manager and bookkeeper for her husband's business, Ezekiel Construction Co. and was a key part of its success. Mamie was also a good cook and became well known for her delicious cakes.

After 58 years of marriage, Mamie was preceded in death by her husband in 2014. She continued to live independently until the age of 92 when the Lord called her home on July 9, 2025.

She leaves to cherish her memories her two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Sharolyn and Brady Bennefield (Columbus, GA) and Katrina and John Murdix (Phenix City, AL);  two beloved grandsons, Marlyn Thompson (Kasey) of Raleigh, NC and Marquis Thompson of Huntsville AL; one adorable great granddaughter, Ava Rhys Thompson of Raleigh, NC; five sisters-in-law, a host of nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
