Minnie Bell

Funeral Services will be held 12:00 noon EDT Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Colbert AME Church. Visitation will be Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Minnie Bell Willis Walton was born to the late Jimmie L. Willis, Sr. and Prince Anna Bellamy Willis. After the death of her parents, Minnie was raised by her aunt, Mariah Willis Perry and her husband Joseph.
Minnie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Colbert AME Church, where she served faithfully until her health declined. She was a member of the 9th District East Alabama Conference Missionary Society and served on the Usher Board. Minnie was the first of her siblings to graduate from high school. She graduated out of a class of 6 students from Oliver High School in 1961.
In August of 1963, Minnie united in holy matrimony with the late Jacob Walton of Hatchechubbee, Alabama. The two were married for 58 years. After marrying, Minnie started her lifelong working career at Bibb Mill as the first black weaver in the company. She worked there until the company closed their doors in March of 1998. Minnie retired with perfect attendance at her job.
Minnie loved caring for her family. She loved shopping, gardening and cooking. Everyone especially loved her collards and cornbread.
On March 23, 2026, Minnie peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Caroline Walton; sisters, Berta Mae Bellamy, Emma Mae Sanks, Anna L. Willis Jones and Martha Johnson; brothers, Jimmie L. Willis, Jr., John H. Willis, Sr. and Benjamin Willis; a sister-in-law, Katie Mae Hamp; two brothers-in-law, Joseph (Mary) Walton and Elijah Walton.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Alexander Walton of Seale, AL; stepdaughter, Terrie Brown of Columbus, GA; one granddaughter, Brittany Brown, JD of Houston, TX; one sister, Gloria (Tommy) Stevens of Columbus, GA; two sisters-in-law, Ella P. Willis of Phenix City, AL and Rowena Walton of Aurora, Illinois; three brothers-in-law, Joseph (Mary) Walton of Pittsview, Alabama, Elijah Walton of Phenix City, Alabama and Lee Hamp of Seale, Alabama; two loving friends, Freddie Perry and Alma Doleman. Minnie also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends to cherish her memory.
