Mr. Olson Cornelius Rogers, affectionately known as "Corn", was called Home to our Lord and Savior on 25 March 2022 in Columbus after a long battle with blood cancer. Olson was born 17 January 1943, in Orlando, Florida to Floyd Eugene and Lisa Lavinia Rogers, who preceded him in death.
Olson received his early education in the Orlando Public School System. At the age of 15, he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where he attended Southern High School. He enjoyed playing LaCrosse until he graduated in 1961. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. His occupational ratings were Mate (TM), Military Police (MP) and Race Relations Instructor. Stellar 21 year career spanned from coast to coast as well as countries overseas. He served on the USS William M. Wood and the USS Sierra destroyer ships. Olson climbed the ranks retiring as Petty Officer First Class.
After retirement, he dabbled in many different business opportunities and finally settled down, he decided to call Milledgeville, GA home. Still young and full of new ideas, he answered the call as Director of the American Red Cross, Milledgeville Chapter. He was an avid reader, always ready to share his strong opinion with others and give advice even if it was unsolicited. He was a very generous man; always helping those that fell on hard times and couldn't help themselves. As his health declined, he moved to Phenix City, AL, where he was loved and cared for by his youngest daughter, Olsa Genean Darden-Harris and family.
His joy and delight was spending time with his daughters and spoiling his grandchildren. He fought a great fight and kept the faith. He is now resting in his Eternal Home and will truly be missed.
He is preceded in death by his son, Brewster Cornelius Rogers. He leaves to mourn: his three loving daughters, Savina Hughes-Thomas (husband Lamont), Allison Rogers and Olsa Darden-Harris (husband Jessie); Grandchildren: Jaqe' Wesley, Johnae' Hughes, Quynn Thomas, Oriah Darden, Jeremiah and Justice Harris; Great-Grandson Josiah Wesley. Aside from the children he doted on, Olson is survived by his sister, Marsha Boyd, uncle, Vergil Rogers, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and devoted friends.
