Sammie grew up in Sumter County and was a 1981 graduate at Sumter County High School. Shortly after, he  enlisted into the United States Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class, E7. After 20 years of active duty service, Mr. Rogers retired and began his next career as a semi-truck driver.

Sammie was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Willie Rogers and one brother James Postell.

Sammie was united in holy matrimony to Mrs. Rocca (Modschiedler) Rogers in 1989. To this union was born three sons, Anthony Rogers, Phillip Rogers and Marcus Rogers.

Sammie's hobbies included watching sports and taking his sons fishing and hunting.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Rocca Rogers; his children, Anthony (Kimberly) Rogers, Phillip Rogers and Marcus Rogers; his grandchildren, Ace Rogers, Kai Rogers and Avianah Rogers; his brothers and sisters Yardley Rogers, Rosa Bruce, Deborah Rogers, Michael Rogers; a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
