Obituary

Funeral Services will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 1, 2025 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

Terence Jamar Jakes was born on July 30, 1988 to Iverson Lamar Dixon, Sr. and Nellie Yvonne Meadows. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Reverend Leevon Jakes; maternal grandmother, Lucille Jakes; paternal grandfather, Leroy Dixon; paternal grandmother, Catherine Dixon and his younger brother, Iverson Lamar Dixon, Jr.

As a child, Terence was somewhat quiet and reserved. His maternal grandfather made sure he knew the Lord. He was baptized at an early age at Gaines Chapel AME Church in Phenix City, Alabama and sang in the youth choir.

In 2006, Terence graduated from Central High School. His reputation as a 'Gentle Giant' began here. He stood out in height, but the kindness he showed to others set him apart as well

Terence always looked for ways for self-improvement. In 2008, he joined the Hugh James Band of Brothers Lodge #1076 in Columbus, Georgia. Through this brotherhood, he became a stronger individual, committed to uplifting his community.

He started his career in protective enforcement in 2012 when he joined the staff of Aaron Cohn Regional Youth Detention Center. There, he built lasting friendships with his peers and made a meaningful impact on local youth. Terences career journey lead him to being a security officer at Pratt and Whitney. He began working in Aflac's security department in 2023, remaining in the role until his passing.  Wherever his work led him, he always made a friend along the way.

For over 10 years, Terence trained regularly in the art of Brazilian Ju Jitsu. He practiced at Rubicon Jiu Jitsu & Self Defense. In January 2024, he was promoted to a black belt. Terence loved his extended family at the gym. Not only did he train, but he was also a well-known instructor.

In 2022, he met his soulmate Valerie. By God's grace, he married his beloved wife in February this year. Although God saw fit to call Terence home, the two formed a relationship built on love, companionship, and laughter that will last for a lifetime.

Terence was a man of God. He became a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in 2023.

He leaves to cherish his memory his father Iverson Lamar Dixon, Sr.; mother, Nellie Yvonne Meadows, his wife, Valerie Jakes; his three children Kymora, Terence, Jr., and Addison; his siblings, Justin Rome, Tevin Johnson and Paris Dixon; his best friends/brothers, Daniel (Shaniqua) Hill, Brandon Clark and Steve LaGrand; his babies from Ju Jitsu, coworkers, gym partners, church family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and host of other beloved family.
