Funeral Services will be held 1:00 pm EDT Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Friendship Baptist Church in Hurtsboro, AL. Family Hour will be at 12:00 noon, just before the service

Tommie, was born July 11, 1939, in Hurtsboro, Alabama in front of the fireplace of his grandmother's, the late Maggie McGee, who served as the Parish mid-wife. The first son to the late Vandee Brown and Beatrice Nalls, who preceded him in death.

Tommie attended Russell County Training School up to the ninth grade in Hurtsboro, Alabama. He was a no non-sense type of guy. He didn't sugarcoat anything. Whatever come up come out. And would tell you the truth no matter what it was.

Tommie, who's childhood names were "Hoss, Bro or Buh Buh", grew up on the farm and worked in the fields to live off and help the family income. Plowing fields with horses, planting and picking bales of cotton, corn, crowder peas and peanuts; feeding animals, hunting, skinning and preparing meat for storage and meals. He also worked at Tom Houston Peanut Company and the Steel Mill in Columbus, Georgia.

Tommie moved to Detroit in the early 1950's. He worked at Big Boys for a short time before he got his dream job and that was driving that 18 wheelers Semi-Tractor Trailer Truck. He worked for Great Scott Foods, later named Shedds Foods.

He liked being out on the open road. Tommie was a truck driver for over 50 years or more, never took a sick or any day off. Didn't want to take a vacation. He retired August 1, 1995 and was a Lifetime Member of the Teamster Local 337. After two years in retirement, he decided he wanted drive again, so he went out and found another truck driver's job at ST Staffing and was there until November 2023.

On October 13, 1957, Tommie and Bessie B. Rose, was joined in Holy Matrimony. They were made for each other.  He would even take her on the road with him many of times. She enjoyed going with "Brownie" as she affectionately called him. They meant the world to each other.

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, Tommie crossed over to a land of Peace and Glory, at Sinai/Grace Hospital.

Tommie is also preceded in death by his sister, Georgia "Bay Bay" Graham; brother, Eddie Lee "Sport" Brown and Jimmie Lee "Calvin" Brown.

Tommie leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Bessie; bonus daughters, Retha Williams and Julia Gordy {Augusta}; grandchildren, Regina Gordon, Richard Gordon, Reginald Gordon and Augusta Gordy, Jr.; three great-grands and two great-great-grands; brothers, Douglas "Mac" Brown {Christine} and Sterling Brown {Marshonett); sisters, Maggie "Doll" Halsell {Pleas}, Dr. Gail Nalls and Wanda "Penny" Nalls; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
