Mrs. Verlina Mayo affectionately known as "Lene" passed away April 19, 2023, at the Piedmont Hospital, Columbus, GA.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 12:00pm in the chapel at the Battle and Battle Funeral Home, 434 South Seale Rd, Phenix City, AL, Pastor Charlie Sanders, Jr., officiating. Interment will follow at the Westend Cemetery, Phenix City, AL. Visitation will be Friday, April 28, 2023, from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mayo was born September 24, 1946, in Crawford, AL to the late Ruby Shephard and Johnny Lee Upshaw. She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Mayo, Jr.

Those left to cherish memories of her include One son, Theodore Shephard, Phenix City, AL.;  One daughter, Ruby Upshaw, Phenix City, AL; Seven Grandchildren, Courtney Upshaw, Phenix City, AL; Cornelia Upshaw Vaughn (Whitney), Columbus, GA, Carmen Upshaw, Columbus, GA, Brontavious Jakes, Bronterroius Jakes, Cayden Mayo, Phenix City, AL and Destiny Shephard, Atlanta, GA; Fifteen Great Grandchildren with another on the way; numerous other family members and friends.
